Placemaking Arts embody a wide range of practices designed to help communities and organizations find new ways to achieve success. Projects are collaboratively developed with people from the organization or community, and needs addressed can range from internal capacity building or conversations around conflict to external advocacy and support. In this work, we follow the rubric of civic and social arts developed by the Center for Performance and Civic Practice.

Nashville's Metro Public Health Department: Artist Residency
Through an artist residency with the Nashville Metro Department of Public Health. Funded by the Metro Arts: Office of Arts and Culture, Doenges and Author M. Simone Boyd were tasked with helping the department increase lines of communication with the community at large.

The ongoing project is focused on the development of a 5-year Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP). Development of the CHIP is a process that incorporates community voices into a strategic plan for a variety of organizations in the city addressing city-wide health initiatives.
The department has noted that they feel able to collect data from folks in the metro area, but often struggle to communicate the results of that data - and the resulting efforts that come from it - back to the city. Partnered together with the Health Department, Doenges is working to collaboratively develop ways to build that needed communication through artistic practices.

Wade [Music for River and People] with Rivive! Nashville
The Nashville installation of Wade [Music for River and People] was presented in partnership with the Nashville Waterways Consortium‘s Rivive! Nashville movement and funded in part by Metropolitan Nashville Arts Commission. Rivive! Nashville is a movement initiated by the five conservation groups of the consortium in an effort to revitalize Nashville’s streams and rivers.

The goal of the project was to increase awareness of the work that Rivive! Nashville is doing to educate the city's residents about the state of area water ways. The rate of development in the area continues to threaten Nashville’s waterways and our relationship with them, and Rivive! needed help getting attention for their work.
Through media interviews, pop-up happenings in the installation space, and panel discussions about art and the environment, we reached new audiences for the work that Rivive! is doing together. The event was selected as a Best of Nashville 2018 event by the Nashville Scene.

Get Back to Your [Life] with the Greater Nashville Regional Council
Get Back to Your [Life] with the Greater Nashville Regional Council
Get Back To Your [Life] was created in support of the South Corridor Study conducted by the Greater Nashville Regional Council. It offered people the opportunity to share their thoughts and experience with area transit planners through an interactive art project. Answers from a short online survey were incorporated into the work in real time. Shared via live-stream and public events, the project helped middle Tennesseans shape a better future for area transit.

Get Back to Your [Life] helped identify the challenges of maneuvering throughout the South Corridor while prompting a collective imagination of a better future. The work used a short survey to gather information about travel challenges, habits, and transit preferences along the south corridor. Answers to survey questions were incorporated into the piece when they were submitted allowing participants to share their mobility challenges and visions with transit analysts, other participants and everyone viewing the piece.
